In music class, we come prepared to listen, participate and work together. These are the expectations for every student. In music class, students learn through music. Though there may be some written work, they learn and are assessed mostly through singing, playing instruments, dance, movement and other musical activities.
A student in the music class is expected to listen and watch in order to follow all directions. These directions may be given in words, gestures, signals or other ways. Students are expected to participate to the best of their ability in all music classroom activities. They are expected to work together as partners or in groups with the other students in their class.
All third grade students learn to play the recorder ( a small wind instrument) starting in January. All students in third and fourth grade must have a recorder. High-quality recorders are available for purchase through the school. Books are available also, but are not required. A letter was sent home in mid-October with details.
All fourth and fifth grade students are involved in a choral concert as part of their music class. The fifth grade concert this year will be January 23rd at 7:00 PM. The fourth grade concert will be May 15th, also at 7:00 PM. In addition, three fifth graders will be selected to perform with the Howard County Festival Chorus in May. |
